There is something about these paintings that reminds you of Christmas. Perhaps it is the scenery, the style of painting that looks familiar in Christmas cards, or is a memory of tramping frozen ground with friends and family on a Boxing Day shoot? Out with the gun dogs, footprints of a fox in the snow and the thought of the family gathering around a roaring log fire when the day's shooting is over.

Can wildlife in Winter ever fail to arrest your gaze? Over snowy landscapes in cold crisp air a flock of teal fly low from nowhere and land on a lake beyond the trees. Magical.

Whether in the depth of Winter, early Spring or during hot Summers days, the English landscape is always a joy. Green meadows, and the sound of birdsong in the hedgrows - they survived another cold Winter. A riot of colour, with blossom on the trees and flowers busting into bloom - all was so different when the beaters were working ahead of the guns, with shots ringing out as the gamebirds took flight. Oh the joy of the four Seasons in England, with the shoot to come.

ABOUT THE ART

Watercolours are mostly smaller than the acrylics, but nothing is larger than 24 inches, so easy to dispatch. The landscapes and country scenes will appeal to fellow shooters and country men - although the seascapes have similarly been appreciated as Christmas and Birthday gifts.

Water colours are best mounted in a card, framed and glass covered, acrylics don't need the glass and the larger paintings (22 inchdes x 18 inches) are good with just a wide white wood frame which doesn't detract from the picture.

Only original paintings are for sale - no prints - although art is available for commercial purposes, and have ben sold for cards, etc.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Like so many artists, having shown a talent for art at school, the joys and relaxation of painting took second place to a busy working life, or in this case, school again - teaching, rather than being taught. A decade or so later and this artist has finally been able to make time to indulge in a passion for painting landscapes of the English countryside - selling paintings for the enjoyment of others.

"I run a shoot, and enjoy shooting, so many of my landscapes have birds in them and others are of birds in suitable habitat. Lately I have produced a few seascapes because acrylics are so suitable for this."

The landscape never fails to provide inspiration, but the artist admires the work of famous wildlife artists notably Thorburn, Harrison and Roger Mc Phail - also fellow artists who paint the East Anglian seascapes and country scenes.
