Small but fat frames filled with everyday objects.

Life-size cutlery such as cups or spoons cast in silicon. Items that have a particularly intimate relationship with humans as they touch each other on a daily basis. Cups have a special relationship as the contents actually go inside people's bodies. The look and feel is altogether strange as the items, normally solid and hard, form floppy impossible shapes within the frames. Some are all white, some very colourful.

Frames contains models of chairs or books, made of paper or card. Some of the pieces come out of the frames and enhance the closeness to the viewer. One piece looks good on its own, but often the effect is enhanced if a set of frames are hung together on a wall.

SUITABLE INSTALLATIONS

The framed pieces of art are suitable for any room except the bathroom, where the humidity is likely to be too high. All other rooms, including the kitchen, can be decorated with two or three small sets of pieces for dramatic effect on the space where they are displayed.

While particularly suited to very contemporary designed houses or flats, if displayed in an older traditional house their effect can be even more dramatic. Just one small piece put on a shelf, several hung up in a hallway or beside an entrance door, all produce a wonderful decoration for the home.

THE ART CONCEPT

The core artistic concept is transformation. Transformation means introducing alternative value to things. Through research, the artist has worked with ordinary everyday items and materials, and also produced video films. In each case, the original form has been transformed and given an alternative value.

Contemporary framed art

The secondary concept is a fascination with mass-production. Hundreds or thousands of pieces, all made with the same material in the same colour, and all at first glance seemingly identical. Yet close inspection reveals unique, individualistic characteristics. Mass-production is such an important part of modern civilisation and yet is usually taken for granted. This theme has been examined by creating works of casting and video.

The objects such as bottles and spoons cast in paper paste. They look so strange, totally fragile and useless. But expanding alternative value, it makes their existence extraordinary and touches on their emotional side.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

I have been exploring transformation for over 20years. With an art education in Japan and England. I moved to London in 1995. I investigated mass-production and focussed on the casting method before receiving an MA degree from Wimbledon college of Art (University of Arts London), after which I was selected from a large number of applicants for exhibitions such as "NOW 2002" and "New Contemporaries 2003". These exhibitions were a big achievements so early in my career as there is a great deal of competition for these events. My concepts have since expanded and I now work with the media of video.
